In 2019, the Argentinean Malena Villa decided to put a stop to her flourishing career as an actress to dedicate herself fully to another one of her great passions: music. Her timing turned out to be perfect: today, she is part of a new musical trend that is deeply shifting the landscape of Argentinian music, having been characterized for over 50 years by the famous “Rock Nacional”.

On her socials, she often posts stripped-down cover videos, in which she plays the tracks of artists like Billie Eilish, Chance the Rapper, Drake, or the Argentinean band Conociendo Rusia, only accompanied by her guitar. Even though she has not yet released long-form works, Malena's songs are already polished and album-ready. Throughout the second half of 2020, she will be performing live at various Argentinean festivals, but for now, let's enjoy her LINDOS PROBLEMAS:

Malena is part of a new generation, one in which women play the starring role because of their lyrics, their opinions, their positions - because they fearlessly face all obstacles of life. Artists like her, Chita, Femigangasta or Nathy Peluso (a.o.), became the voice of many young Argentinean women as of recent. They represent a generation that completely changes the way music is made. Today, having a band isn't a hurdle to overcome. These days, the producer provides a base, the musician adds their voice - and the song is ready to be uploaded on all platforms.

One of Malena's favorite aspects of entering the recording studio is being able to share her work with friends. This was the final reason for her to dare and take the step to enter the world of music. It was thanks to a collaboration with friend and colleague Toto Ferro that Malena first hit the studio, singing on "Igual te Quiero", later featured on his album "Kiddo Toto". A few months later, she released her very first solo single "SABE MAL", a hybrid song blending several sonic styles, vocally resembling Colombian artist Kali Uchis. Lyrically, she addresses the importance of taking charge, of remaining truthful and not lying.

The song was released alongside a video clip, in which her ability as an actress is exhibited.

Today, she entered the court (literally) once again, with her second single "LINDOS PROBLEMAS", a song incorporating a mixture of totally different genres. It intrigues the listener within the first seconds with a jazz piano, progressing to a party-like sound, before it finally explodes with the winds of the chorus. The accompanying music video was filmed at the Atlanta Football Club Stadium in Buenos Aires, and directed by the Argentinean Sofia Malamute, known abroad for her work with major brands such as Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and many more.

Malena not only has an impeccable talent for singing, but also for adding a unique spin to acoustic covers.
